Exciting announcement, hopefully the first among many (or at least a handful)!

If memory serves, the last time the entire Full Service original lineup set up shop in a club was sometime last spring. Now allow me to blow your mind: as of Saturday, October 31, that will no longer be the case. Wreck Tech, Mike McGill b2b Tackleberry, Herr Jordan Rothlein (aka me) b2b Momo Araki (in perhaps our final appearance under our MO/RDAN moniker), and of course ultimate raev impresario Jack Inslee will be re-forming Wu-Tang style (hopefully more “Wu-Tang Forever” than “8 Diagrams”) to once again bring you our messy, eclectic, utopian vision for dance floor destruction. And because it’s Halloween, expect everything to be just a little weirder and creepier than you remember it.

To all of you naysayers who can’t get behind an incredible sound system if a Bud Light costs $8 at the bar: we feel your pain. Which is why Full Service will once again hold Raev of the Dead at Williamsburg’s epically wacky Glasslands. Beers are cheap and very good, and if memory serves, the DJ booth is underneath a massive painting of a penis or something. Put on a cracked-out costume, grab one hundred of your friends, and prepare to get mowed over by dubstep, disco, garage, house, booty rap, jungle, techno, musique concrète, hypnagogic pop, yacht rock, and probably much more.

As many Sundays as possible, Momo Araki and I form Voltron-like under our Mo/rdan guise to play each other recent acquisitions, talk shop about upcoming gigs, and generally geek out about techno.

LLC003 (right/control-click to download), an hour-and-one-third snippet of a very loose and thoroughly tripping tagteam mix sesh that went on far longer than my neighbors may have liked, documents one of these oonce-oonce afternoons.  We have decided to withhold the tracklist, but discerning ears might recognize the mechanical, gothic textures of Sandwell District, MDR, and Soloaction, amongst others; a funky house track (and some really dorky filter/panning action) snuck in as well.  I never did a best-of-2008, but the mix’s final moments feature my ultimate emo-Detroit anthem of the year, if not ever.  (Any guesses?)

You can catch Mo/rdan at Manhattan’s Club Love this Friday (2/6/09) for the latest installment of Full Service, which bears the seasonally appropriate subtitle of FLU SHOT.  (To paraphrase Lil Wayne, we are ill, not sick, and there is a difference.)  In the interest of keeping things, uh, interesting, we’ll be taking the early (11-12:30) shift, so don’t sleep.  Or rather, don’t over-nap.  Full details over at the Full Service blog.

Wreck Tech is one hell of a DJ.  (If you were at Full Service on January 10, then you know what the fuck I’m talking about.)  And his weekly broadcast on WNYU, The Math and Science Show, is one of the finest portals around for rough-hewn, ghettoblasting club music on the Croydon-Kingston-Brooklyn axis.  I mean, you know M+S is f’real because Zomby once canceled a guest spot, and I’ll be damned if that isn’t some kinda rite of passage.

So what will happen when a couple of staid techno fanboys descend on the studio tonight?  I’m not really sure.  But somehow Mr. Tech has entrusted MO/RDAN, my ongoing DJ collaboration with Momo Araki, with guesthosting duties tonight while he’s off globetrotting, so I guess we’ll see.  Expect dubstep-not-dubstep, deep n’ fast techno, tape echo from the bottom of the ocean, and probably a few old Scientist jams.  It will either be totally awesome or an insult to everything M+S stands for.  But we’re seriously shooting for the former, we promise.

In other MO/RDAN news, we’re at work both on a special extended LLC mix and on something a bit more polished to be released on CD!  Hell yes!

In the meantime, though, I’m gonna get back to drinking tea, listening to the new Animal Collective (holy shit dudes!), and trying to kick the cold from hell before tonight.

I have been crazy busy!  And when I’m crazy busy and have a free moment, I tend to be crazy lazy!  So yeah, this post should have happened at least a week ago.

But here we go: Full Service’s latest exercise in debauchery-meets-musical sophistication, Year of the Raev, is this Saturday night (as in TOMORROW NIGHT) at Manhattan’s Club Love.  As the title suggests, this is our one-year (actually more like one-year-and-one-month) anniversary party.  Buy a $5 advance ticket and celebrate joyful misspelling with us.  Music from 10pm, MO/RDAN’s extra-seductive set 2am-close.

Momo Araki (fellow Mo/rdan-er and aspiring architect), Brad LaBonte (of WFMU, WNYU, and various other endeavors; he has also recently authored a sweet year-end top-ten), and I have been wanting to start a tech/dub/ambient/zoneout party together since, like, forever.  Dan Breindel (VJ and proprietor of the Milk of Paradise Art Company) and I usually spend the majority of every Raev afterparty talking about how much we like playing together.  It seemed like it was time all four of us combined powers and, Captain Planet-like, birthed some sort of benevolent techno do-gooder.

Thus, we bring you our first Smoke and Mirrors party, festively dubbed A TECHNOËL, this Friday (12/19/08).  Dan is opening up his loft, which is set to contain an immersive projection device called the “Worlds-collidoscope” and a super-smooth soundsystem, for an evening of deep tunes, trippy video art, and the strangest holiday cheer we can muster.  If you’ve found my other recent parties to be somewhat stressful, please don’t shy away from this one; a Raev, this certainly is not.

On Halloween (this Friday, can you believe it?), RAEV OF THE DEAD invades Glasslands in Williamsburg for a night of confetti cannons, glowstick jewelry, razor-spiked candy, bloody-as-shit video art, and — of course — top-flight dancing courtesy of the Full Service crew.  Momo and I will once again be teaming up as Mo/rdan for a scarier-than-usual journey across the Detroit-Berlin killing fields.  Party at 10pm, Mo/rdan from 2am-???.  Costumes are a must, as are $5 to get you through the door.  Shit should be huge, as evidenced by the curious fact that we’re listed on this myspace page between Talib Kweli and Devin the Dude… see if you can spot us.  Be sure to check out the insane flyer action by Ducksworth, Starhammer, and Milk of Paradise after the jump!

Terribly late notice on this one, but I just found out myself: I’ll be guest-hosting (along with Dr. [Momo] Araki) WNYU’s venerable mnml program Bentwave tonight! The Doktor and I will be trading off recent and revered dancemusics from 10:30 PM to 1 AM. If you’re in the tri-state, you can catch us on the FM dial at 89.1. Kompakt, in my book, has been one-for-one recently. Jennifer Cardini’s Feeling Strange mix CD falls a little flat, like if the tech-house section on Beatport one day decided to mix itself (plus the one Maurizio track you buy for cool points). Luckily, Kompakt Pop — the name is gloriously self-explanatory — has arrived with the perfect antidote for what happened when you showed your hair stylist that picture of Onur Ozer: Superpitcher vs. The Congosound’s Say I’m Your Number One. The original mix by Congosound, a Spanish italo outfit who apparently own the set to a failed Stanley Kubrick gameshow pilot, is destined to soundtrack only the most fashionable makeout seshes worldwide this summer (ladies?). Abstinence-only educators, however, aren’t likely to be all that pleased with Superpitcher, whose dancefloor-approved remix’s retro bassline boasts enough slink to melt that promise ring right off of your finger and shouldn’t be played before noon on Sundays. Hey, it’s not the kids’ fault it feels so good. (Should your high school’s God Squad be stacked with budding Michael Mayer completists, that is.)

You know where to find me this weekend, but should you be a Computer Science grad student at a certain leading New York research institution (that I may or may not have graduated from), you’ll have another chance next week as well. That’s right, bitches: I’ll be spinning smooth digital sounds at a private champagne party on top of the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences on Thursday, April 24. And you’d better believe I’ll be posting the results.
