MONDAY: MO/RDAN ON WNYU’S BENTWAVE

April 13, 2009

I think I just needed a week where I could come home from my shirt-and-tie job and not feel obligated to jump immediately onto something else.  Sometimes, if your roommate is lounging on the couch and asks if you got the next Buffy the Vampire Slayer DVD in the mail, you want to say “Hell motherfucking yeah” and commence in some chillage without the slightest tinge of guilt or anxiety.  (You see, Sliu, I do write about you on here.)  And it’s never a good sign when the fact that my turntables sit atop something that West Elm markets as a desk starts feeling deeply ironic.

But as this hands-off-my-decks week draws to a close, I feel refreshed.  Techno might be slightly more than a hobby for me, but sifting through Hard Wax’s RSS feed and pumping bass in my bedroom every evening (and in the clubs when I’m lucky) isn’t exactly a miserable existence.  Perspective is everything, and making my Technics sleep on the couch for awhile got me some.

(Listening to Stimming’s fantastic new album Reflections helped a good deal as well.  Yes, that is a seeerious recommend right there.)

Luckily, I’ve been given the chance to jump right back into the swing of things.  This Monday night (as in tomorrow), MO/RDAN will be taking to WNYU’s hallowed studios for a special set on Bentwave.  Expect a whole lot of new 4/4, as per Bentwave’s mandate, as well as some classic sounds and fast tempos, as per MO/RDAN’s mandate.  If you’ve been reading this blog, you probably know the drill: 89.1 FM in NYC, WNYU.org everywhere else, 10:30-1AM eastern time.

Lastly, Full Service will be taking April off in preparation for RAEV X — you got that right, we’re on our TENTH FUCKING PARTY — on Saturday, May 23.  Watch this space for more details, but be forewarned: you will be having a profoundly sleepless night in about six weeks, and it will be all my fault.

… in which there is no mix by Herr Jordan.  If there was, though, I seriously hope it would be a nug this dank.  (Good fucking luck.)

I’d had a new mix in the work last week, but I realized that it was coming from a rather stressed-out place.  Shit has been busy lately, and I felt like you could hear that fact in every version I’d commit to tape.  Rather than yank the chain of something that’s just refusing to come along at the pace I’d like it to, I’ve decided to take a few steps back, sit down next to it, pat it on the back, and figure out how best to coax it along.

Thus, I’m on an extremely temporary DJing hiatus while I catch up on sleep, sanity, and some projects I just haven’t had the time or the brains to do properly.  You will be hearing from me very soon — by the next Full Service party at the very, very least.  And I’m quite confident that once I’m back, I’ll have something not-too-shabby to show for my time spent just slightly out of the loop.

So check it: I found Muxtape, jumped the fuck on it, and revised/revived/invoked my old WNYU show in the process. I suggest you get your own, as things don’t get much neater. (Mine is an ongoing process… I promise I’ll be up to a full twelve songs soon enough.)

The promised Live @ Courant Institute mix didn’t materialize. My DJ bud and I decided to scrap the turntables and opt for iTunes after we discovered we’d be playing out of a single speaker. … Not that there’s anything inherently wrong with that. A great time was had by all, and if you really want to get a feel for the evening, just bust out one of your dad’s Booker T records and try to look exceedingly intelligent.

I’m seriously gonna stop crying wolf: tonight, I’m staying up late to record a mix I’ve been figuring my way through for the last few weeks. Business and brain death be damned!

FIRST!

Oh fuck, where did all this chesthair come from? Obviously, videobuff is the greatest of all YouTube channels… if you’re the type who feels like spending hours trolling disco dance, euro/electro/italo, and 90s HI-NRG highly-compressed twelves that is. Sure, the music’s all kind of questionable, like fleeing loved ones/roommates-steez questionable. (Fair warning, kids: I’m serious about the roommates.) But I’ll be goddamned if it isn’t pretty impressive.

And I’m here because . . .     I had a livejournal quite some time ago.  I realized recently that that’s really been my only regular, passionate foray into the blogosphere (note: was it the blogosphere back when livejournal was still relevant?).  And how, erm, passionate it was.  (Can’t take back high school, no sir.)  (Don’t even try googling my livejournal.  I’ll hunt you the fuck down.)

This, I’m hoping, will not become that kind of blog.  My idea is to have this be a clearinghouse for stuff I’m creating and stuff that I’m into.  Most of the time that will be (dance) music(s), but I’m down for some forays.  To be honest, I’m not going into this with too much of a plan; at the heart of it, I think I just don’t want to be the last loser without a (music) blog.

So now, for your consideration, the blog.  I’m fading into the shadows until someone says something anti-semitic in the comments.  Bitch please.
